Under North Carolina state law, a person may qualify as a "resident for tuition purposes" in North Carolina, whereby s/he becomes eligible for a tuition rate that is lower than for a person classified as a "non-resident for tuition purposes".
All applicants to UNC Charlotte who are classified as "international" for admissions purposes, will be classified as "non-residents" for tuition purposes. Once you are admitted/accepted to begin academic study at UNC Charlotte, you may submit the Application for NC Residency for Tuition Purposes along with supporting documentation, so your NC status for tuition purposes may be reviewed and adjusted accordingly.
Please note that students who are, or will be, on F or J visa status in the U.S.A. are not eligible for North Carolina residency status for tuition purposes.
Further information, application forms and application instructions are available from the Residency Determination Office.
